387 Short Stories: Day 71: Story 71: The Wife’s Story by Ursula K Le Guin

The Compass Rose by Ursula K Le Guin Taken from the Collection: The Compass Rose and Other Stories

I have always been fascinated by Le Guin’s way of writing. She presents something very simple and then turns it around on its head. “The Wife’s Story” is one of those rare gems that leave you stunned. She is definitely trying to say a lot more than what is seen on the surface. The plot is that of a wife and how she could not realize her husband’s true nature earlier. The “true nature” is the mysterious element in the story, which reveals itself hurriedly and also quite fascinatingly. It is a story which will in all probability compel you to read her longer works.
