Title: A Good Man is Hard to Find
Author: Flannery O’Connor
Taken from the collection: A Good Man is Hard to Find and other Stories

A family. A trip that turns disastrous for everyone in the family. A bunch of serial killers and yet the grandmother of the family, touching one of the serial killer’s hearts. Morbid, strange and bordering dementia, “A Good Man is Hard to Find” is O’Connor’s finest short story, according to me. There are a lot of religious overtones throughout the story, but that is also because of where O’Connor grew up and her lifestyle.

The story is extremely violent, but that is how the writer intended it to be. There is also a lot of morality play and O’Connor manages all of this, including the balancing of characters in a short story format, which seems unreal and often mesmerizing. The story can get a little dark, however I would urge every short story form lover to read this one.
