Title: The End of the Affair
Author: David Sedaris

I am cheating today. Instead of a story, I read an essay, but that is only because it happens to be my favourite essay in the whole wide world. The End of the Affair by David Sedaris is funny and also very sweet. The essay is about his partner Hugh and he going to watch the movie The End of the Affair and the different reactions it evokes in both, however at the end of it all, it is love in reality and the real sense of the world that prevails.
To me this is a short story and hence I read it. It talks of love without any reason to make obvious sense of the gender involved and in the wake of the events of Section 377, this seemed like a perfect piece to be read today. I could not stop crying a little at the end of it – but those were tears of happiness, because I knew that I would someday experience the same kind of love and emotion from my partner and give it right back to him. Therefore, to me this is a story, infused with reality, about love and being there for each other in equal measure.
